Knee Timeline - Day after operation

Day after operation

You usually begin mobilising the first day after your operation once the wound drains have been removed.

The Physiotherapist will help you with your mobility and teach you how to get in and out of bed correctly to prevent any damage to your new knee.

You may feel a little dizzy or nauseous at first this is because you have been lying down for a while.

You will be prescribed painkilling medicines to control the pain. It is important to take the medication regularly initially as you will progress more quickly if you pain is under control.

As your confidence and leg control improves you will progress to walking with crutches or sticks. The Physiotherapist will advise you a safe walking pattern.

The physiotherapist will take you up and down the stairs and they will ensure you can manage this safely before you are able to go home.
