Knee operation timeline
Pain  
This is usually directly in the knee but can radiate to the shin area.  more

GP Visit 
Your GP will take a history and examine you and may make a diagnosis of osteoarthritis in the knee. more

Triage clinic
You may be referred to a specialist clinic if this system operates in your local area.  more

Hospital The clinical history and X-rays reviewed. more

Pre-op assessment 
A clinic that takes place at the hospital to ensure you are fit for surgery and understand the operation. more

Consent 
Consent to operate will be obtained and your doctor. more


Operation 
You are admitted to hospital and prepared for surgery, given an anaesthetic and the operation carried out. more

Day after op:
See the physiotherapists. more


Rest of hospital stay:
Continue exercises and physiotherpy. more

Home:
There may be need for ongoing check ups advised by your doctor.
