The Orthopaedic Clinic in the hospital is run by an Orthopaedic Consultant but you may see a junior doctor or a physiotherapist as well as the Consultant.  There may be also medical students present at this clinic.  The clinical story will be covered and the X-rays reviewed and others taken if necessary.  At this clinic the decision to operate will be made.

The pre-operative assessment will now begin.  This is usually done at a separate clinic but at this initial clinic you may be asked to fill in forms about your general health but some others tasks may be carried out to prepare you for surgery.
