After the hip operation you will return to the ward lying on your back with a triangular pillow, (Charnley wedge) between your legs. This is to keep you legs apart to prevent harmful movements, such as crossing your legs, putting stress on the new joint.
While in hospital you will be seen by a physiotherapist who will instruct you on exercises, getting in and out of bed and on the use of walking aids.
The physiotherapist will check you are doing your exercises correctly.
