Do's and Don'ts following hip replacement surgery

Our medical panel has put together a concise list of do's and don'ts to help you following hip replacement surgery.


Do 

Continue the exercises taught to you. 

Sit on a firm high chair with arms

Keeep a pillow between your legs at night to stop you crossing them

Get in and out of bed as you were taught by the Physiotherapist

Slowly increase your mobility and endurance

Use a pillow between your knees when you are allowed to lie on your side after six weeks

 


Don't

Try not to cross your legs or ankles

Bend your operated leg more than 90 degrees in the first six weeks after your operation

Sit in very low chairs in the first six weeks after your operation

Lie on your side for at least six weeks after your operation

Sit with your legs down for long periods

Twist the operated leg when walking or turning

Sit on the floor or in the bottom or a bath up to twelve weeks after the operation

Drive until six weeks after your operation
